Cultural Olympiad - Artists Taking the Lead

We expect this Major Project strand of the Cultural Olympiad to be launched mid March. Twelve cutting edge artists' commissions will be created in 12 contrasting locations across the UK in the run up to 2012, showcasing the best creative talent in the UK. The commissions could take the form of festivals, installations, performances or events. They could take place in a city centre or up a hillside, within a concert hall or on a beach, but all of them will be fully accessible and celebrate the cultural diversity and creativity of the country.

Arts Council England SE is now looking for expressions of interest from artists to become Regional Artist Advisors for the SE project. Each of Arts Council England's nine regional offices of will select a panel of 6-8 Artist Advisors.

SO good to know there's commissions opportunity in a few months - time to think and plan - would be great if we can get projects happening locally..... more basic info in comments

The regional groups will be responsible for:
* assessing the ideas submitted by artists
* choosing a shortlist of ideas to be put forward for development
* recommending the final commission for each region
* acting as advocates for the Artists taking the lead project

We are looking for a range of artists and creative producers with knowledge and expertise in the following areas:
* commissioning and implementing artistic judgement
* artist development
* audience engagement
* financial and management viability of large scale projects
* ability to build and maintain partnerships
* inclusiveness and diversity

Expressions of interest will be reviewed by the Arts Council's 2012 regional leader and recommendations presented to the regional senior management team for final agreement.

Selection will be made on the basis of individual's capacity and the need to ensure a range of expertise and complimentary skills amongst the panel.

Interested individuals are asked to submit a short expression of interest to Arts Council SE by Friday 13 February 2009. This should outline:
* your skills and experience in relation to the above criteria
* your interest in being involved in Artists taking the lead
* your availability for planned meetings listed on weblink below

Panel commitment
We estimate the minimum time commitment from the panel to be six days over an eight-month period.

We will pay Artists Advisors £250 per day + expenses.
